Jet Ski Day: A Timely Reminder to Ride with Care

Today, and July 13th annually, is Jet Ski Day 水上バイクの日 in Japan. The day encourages people to enjoy these powerful machines while staying mindful of safety on rivers and at sea. That reminder feels especially important this year.

Yesterday morning, a three‑seater jet ski overturned, leaving a teenage girl missing while two male riders suffered minor injuries in Chiba Prefecture.  The police, fire crews, and the Coast Guard continue their search, and I hope and pray for her safe return.

The purpose of Jet Ski today is exactly to promote safe enjoyment of jet skis. It was created with the aim of preventing marine accidents, while supporting community activities such as jet ski cruises and tours. This year, more than ever, Jet Ski Day is a reminder to respect the water.
