The description
An easy to open, triangle shaped hand rolled 'onigiri' rice ball with a tuna mayonnaise filling, wrapped in a sheet of crisp and crunchy nori (seaweed).
The good
I most like the mixture of textures in this hand rolled onigiri rice ball. A crispy outer layer, thanks to the nori (seaweed), with a chewy inside, thanks to the rice, and moist at the center, thanks to the tuna mayonnaise. I also like the packaging, which was designed to keep your hands clean while eating. Thus, making this onigiri rice ball a good option when eating on the go. You pull the packaging from the center so it splits (the packaging) into two triangles. You remove one and hold the section that is still wrapped. Voila, clean hands and less mess.
The not so good
However, as anyone who has ever eaten this type of onigiri can attest, its not uncommon for the nori to also split and come off with the packaging. But, in my experience, it happens less with this brand (Shinobu foods). Unfortunately, the price of this product has gone up hugely in the last 5 years. I distinctly remember when this onigiri only cost 88 yen. Now, it costs 108 yen. That is the price at my local Welcia store. Each store prices differently and I know it's cheaper at some supermarket chains, but my local supermarket doesn't carry this brand of onigiri.
