Japan heritage stories
Today, and February 13th annually, is Japan Heritage Day 日本遺産の日. "Japan Herigate" is quite different to both "World Heritage" and "Cultural Property designation" but it does include both "world heritage" and "cultural properties" among the list. The Japan Heritage is presented as stories of a region and / or cultural facet, both tangible and intangible.
"Japan Heritage Day" was established by the Agency for Cultural Affairs (文化庁) to promote awareness and understanding of Japan Heritage, which recognizes groups of cultural assets that, together, tell a meaningful story about a region’s history, traditions, and identity.
The system only started in 2015 so its relatively new, but there are already 104 stories. The photo in this post is of Gyoda Tabi, which is one of the 104 stories, "Gyoda – The City of Japanese Tabi Socks".
Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
