Statice, a birthday flower of May 7th
Statice is one of the birthday flowers of May 7th annually. Another is "Magnolia" which I introduced in my previous post. Statice is called "Sutaachisu" スターチス in Japanese. It is currently in bloom in many parts of Japan - it typically blooms from May to July. It appears in shades of purple, pink, yellow, white and even blue.
In the Japanese language of flowers the overall meaning of Statice flowers is "unchanging heart" and "lasting memory". Each of the colors also represent a different meaning. For example, purple statice represents "modesty" and "elegance" and pink statice "eternal" or "unchanging". The meanings in English are a bit different with meanings such as "remembrance", "success" and "sympathy".
Botanically, statice belongs to the Limonium genus with its origins in Europe and the Mediterranean coast. It is known as an 'everlasting flower' because the bloom keeps its color and shape even when dried.

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
