The description

This bakery product is a four‑piece pack with two flavors of melon pan, original melon pan and chocolate chip melon pan. They are not individually wrapped.

The good

All things considered, the price isn't that bad at just 42 yen (before tax) per melon bread. If you were to buy an individually wrapped melon bread it would cost about three times that price. However, the size of each is a little smaller than the average individually wrapped melon bread. Four in packet is convenient and I liked that there were two melon bread and two chocolate chip flavored melon bread. They are not as sweet as some of the melon pan on the market, so they may be suited to people who prefer a less sweet bread. The product name is quite a long one: melon bread and chocolate chip melon bread. I wish I could say it's so good they named it twice, but that was not my experience!

The not so good

The chocolate chip melon pan was quite tough, it reminded me of what we call rock cake at home. But it was tougher than rock cake, which is hard rather than tough so it has a good crunchy texture to it. The chocolate chip melon pan was more doughy and not as pleasant an experience as rock cake! The bread is not individually wrapped and has quite a short shelf life, so it's probably best eaten quickly once you open the packet. This is a negative feature not just for this product, but all products in a lot of supermarkets - they show the price before tax in large print on the display and the price after tax in small print below. It's quite misleading.
