White Baby's Breath, a birthday flower of April 15th

White Baby's Breath, the tiny white cloud-like clusters in the flowers in the picture above, are one of the birthday flowers of April 15th annually. In Japanese they are called Kasumisou, 霞草, which is made up of the kanji for mist or haze (Kasumi 霞) and grass or herb (kusa, which is pronounced sou when compounded 草).
In the Japanese language of flowers, known as hanakotoba, white baby's breath expresses "purity of heart", "innocence", "kindness," and "happiness". These meanings come from its delicate form of countless small blossoms branching like mist. In Western flower language, it conveys "everlasting love" and thus is a popular choice for wedding bouquets and celebratory flower arrangements.
In Japan, baby's breath blooms from May to July, reaching is peak in June, when early summer light encourages it to open fully. White Baby's Breath only appears on the flower birthday calendar once, but Baby's Breath in general appears several times. It is the birthday flower of April 4th, May 21st, June 1st and November 30th.
