The description
An easy to open, triangle shaped hand rolled 'onigiri' rice ball with a salmon flake filling, wrapped in a sheet of crisp and crunchy nori (seaweed).
The good
I really like the mixture of textures in this hand rolled onigiri rice ball. A crispy outer layer, thanks to the nori (seaweed), with a chewy inside, thanks to the rice, and moist at the center, thanks to the oily salmon flakes. I also like the packaging of this onigiri. It was designed to keep your hands clean while eating, making it a good option for a quick lunch on the go. Furthermore, if you are new to this product you can quickly learn how to open it because there is a diagram, with the steps marked, on the packaging.
The not so good
However, even with the instructions, everyone is prone to messing it up, especially the first time you do it! It is not uncommon for the nori to also split and come off with the packaging. But, in my experience, it happens less with this brand (Shinobu foods). Unfortunately, the price of this product has gone up hugely in the last 5 years. I distinctly remember when this onigiri only cost 88 yen. Now, it costs 108 yen, at my local supplier anyway. The salmos flavor of this product is good, but its no my favourite. I prefer the tuna mayonnaise one as it is more moist in the center. The salmon flakes can be a bit too dry.
