A day for delicacies
Today, and November 23rd annually, is Delicacy Day 珍味の日. Wikipedia defines a delicacy as a 'rare food item that is considered highly desirable, sophisticated, or peculiarly distinctive within a given culture or region.'
"Delicacy Day" is on the same day as "Niiname-no-matsuri", as it is a day to give blessings for food. The date was also chosen as 11/23 is a pun on "good snack". The eleven (11) looks like "ii" which is the Japanese for 'good' and the 23 can be read as 'snack'.
Japan is a country ripe with delicacies, way too many to list, each with its own unique taste that reflects the characteristics of a region. "Kaiseki" restaurants are a great way to sample some of them. The feature photo is of one dish, of many, at a kaiseki restaurant.

Have you tried many of Japan's delicacies? Do you often eat at kaiseki restaurants?
