Air Conditioning isn't just comfort - it's protection

A TV segment I watched this morning (TV Asahi Morning Show) highlighted a stark finding from a new joint study by the University of Tokyo and the Tokyo Metropolitan Medical Examiner's Office. According to their research, once the daytime high climbs above 33°C, people who don't use air conditioning face a two to three times higher risk of death compared to those who do.

It's a sobering reminder of how dangerous Japan’s summers have become. Heatstroke isn’t only about being outdoors. It can also happen inside your own home if the temperature rises and you’re trying to “tough it out” without cooling. The message from the researchers was simple and urgent: when the heat spikes, turn the AC on and keep it on.

Japan’s summers are only getting hotter, and this kind of data makes it clear that air conditioning is no longer a luxury. It’s a life‑saving tool.
