The Pasta Reggia lasagna sheets, which can be purchased from most of the Gyomu supermarkets, are about the cheapest I've been able to find, without compromising too much on taste. They are precooked, which I love, because in my small Japanese kitchen there is limited room for leaving lasagna sheets steeping in boiled water! It doesn't say how many sheets are in the 500 gram pack, but it serves eight people. I get about three lasagna out of it for a family of six. It comes with an easy to follow recipe on the side of the pack.

I don't know if it is just my branch of Gyomu, but the product disappeared off the shelves earlier this year, for about three months. On my third visit in so many weeks I asked the staff about it and they said they weren't sure what's happened and could only speculate it was a problem on the distributor's side. As it is one of the few places I can buy lasagna sheets easily, it left me in quite a pickle! I did eventually find an alternative, but that is 2.5 times the price. Therefore, it is goes missing again we will have to eat less lasagna than usual! However, as its reasonably priced and has a good shelf life, I've been stocking up since it came back into the store this summer!
