In honor of textbooks

Today, and April 10th annually, is Textbook Day 教科書の日 (Kyōkasho no hi) in Japan. The anniversary was created by the Japan Textbook Association.

The purpose of the anniversary is twofold. One, to help the general public better understand the role of textbooks in Education. Two, to encourage those working in the industry to reaffirm the importance and responsibility of their work.

They chose April 10th because April marks the beginning of the new school year, when freshly printed textbooks reach the hands of students across the country. In addition, there is another reason for the choice of date. It is a wordplay on how 4/10 can be read as "yo (4) to (10)" is short for "yoitosho"  which means "good books".
