Electric Sheep Bar

A classy bar with a good view

Wandering the streets of Sapporo in winter is a cathartic experience. The chill of the air coupled with the hustle and bustle of everything going on around you seems like another world entirely. But, it can only last so long before the cold makes you seek out shelter and something to warm you up. Alcohol is always good for warming you up, so I decided to check out Electric Sheep Bar. I'm a fan of Philip K. Dick, so I was excited to check it out. I was a bit disappointed to find a pretty average bar. There was nothing on the outside that screamed Bladerunner or anything particularly sci-fi, but it looked like a nice enough place to get a few drinks anyway. The waiter was prompt and I was seated against a window so I had a view of the entire city of Sapporo to keep me company. The first thing I was asked is whether I wanted the nomihoudai course (all you can drink) or to order tanpin (ala carte). I chose to just order one drink off the menu, and took a look. Some of the drinks were named after PKD characters or included references, so that was the extent of that. The drinks were on the pricier side, but I also chose a gimmicky drink so that could explain it. I don't remember the name, but it probably was something simple like "Android" for about 900 yen. It was prettier to look at than it was to drink. Do note that there's a 500 yen cover charge per person. The atmosphere of the bar was nice (only locals and it wasn't too crowded, even though I went during the Snow Festival) and the bartender was very friendly. I think I'd stop by again on my next trip if I'm feeling fancy, but just for the atmosphere, not for the drinks.
