I walked out...
Sometimes I just want familiar food, so I settle for chain restaurants. I had anticipated a plate of hiyashichuka, one of my favourites at Hidakaya. I've never done this before in Japan, but I regret to say I walked out. The server at the register, when I asked for a seat for one, waved vaguely in the direction of an open seat. Not a word. I felt awkward because the diner next to me looked too long. It turned out the seat I was directed to was already occupied, and the customer had just gotten up to get a glass of water. I bowed, apologized, and said sumimasen to the server as I walked out. No acknowledgement. Too busy, didn't care.
