Akari Campsite Kawaba Denen

New campsite beside award winning Denen Plaza Roadside station

Akari Campsite, also known as Kawaba Denen Campground, is beside the large and famous Kawaba Denen Plaza roadside station in the Tone district of Gunma. It is a relatively new campsite that was opened in August 2018. We stayed in October 2018. We were a group of 19 and two thirds stayed in the autosite and one third in the glamping site. The latter is fantastic. Beautiful tents pitched on the river bank and fully supplied for you. All you have to bring is your good self. The autosite on the other hand is unfortunately less appealing. The site is on the side of the road that leads to the Denen Plaza roadside station. It is quiet at night, but busy during the day. The land of the campground is not great either, grass over hard rock. We lost quite a few tent pegs trying to hammer them into rock. There are toilets and an indoor sink area for washing dishes. That's about it, but the excellent roadside station is only a minute walk away. The price for the glamping site is fair, but the autosite is overpriced. And you have to pay an extra 1000 yen if you want to be hooked up to the electricity. Check in is from between 1 and 5 pm strictly.
