Quintessential old school station
Takasaki was the very first place I lived in Japan and so the Takasaki Station was the very first train station I ever used. At the time I thought it was huge, but it is actually one of the bigger stations as it is a junction station and services bullet trains as well as local trains. I often go back and still find it exemplary of large local Japanese train stations outside of Tokyo. It is spacious and has a lot of the essential services as well as options for shopping and eatiting. There are a lot of shops, eateries and hotels around the station too.

Easy to navigate and plenty of amenities
Takasaki Station is served by a number of train lines, most notably the Hokuriku and Joetsu shinkansens. I find it to be a clean, organized, and easy to navigate station, and there are plenty of amenities like a big tourist information center if you're looking for tips on things to see & do in the area. It's directly connected to a couple of retail outlets (Montres and Esite) which is convenient if you want to shop or grab a bite to eat while you wait for a train.
