Best French Toast
This bakery restaurant in the Aeon Mall in Natori was our first food stop during our winter vacation. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was surprised when I was looking through the showcase menu and saw not pancakes as I had assumed but French toast. I knew I had to try it. French toast in Japan isn't that common and the bakeries near my home tend to miss the mark pretty incredibly (they don't soak the bread all the way through with the egg mixture before frying it and covering it with flour instead of powdered sugar) so my expectations for French toast in Japan are not terribly high. This stuff looked real good and actually it was amazing. The pandemic safety level was all right and they set us away from other people with good ventilation and space so that we didn't feel like we were having too big of a chance of catching covid. My daughter and I both ordered French toast plates and what came out was fantastic. The French toast was better than anything I've ever had calling itself French toast, here or anywhere. It actually taught me something new about the dish! Finally I figured out why it is French toast. You need French bread. You need the almost stale baguette sliced diagonally then soaked in eggs because only bread with that stale texture can stand up to the soaking process before it gets fried. The meal was fantastic. It was literally the best French toast of my life. My husband ordered a pasta dish that was also great but to me, this place will always be all about the French toast. That's not to say that weren't several other items on the menu that I thought were lovely and fairly reasonably priced. I'm looking forward to going back on special occasions after the pandemic.
