Aoba Shrine is on the grounds of Aobaen cemetery. Beside the shrine there is a beautiful pagoda. The pagoda has a tunnel in front of it with hanging decorations. It has shot to fame for these decorations that change frequently. Currently they are teru teru bozu. The shrine has a picturesque water font (for cleaning your hands) with floating flowers, 'hanachozu', and a striking wood roof with a dragon motif. The shrine and cemetery are free to visit, but it is customary to throw a donation into the prayer box in front of the shrine. Five yen coins are popular as they are said to bring good luck.
