Spirited Away vibe train line
Genkidesu already mentioned the wonderful amenities at this station. I agree with her review. What I particularly liked about this station is that you can see / ride the Ōito Line train. The Oito Line train is a quaint, one-carriage, "one-man" train. You take a ticket from a machine as you enter the train and you pay as you get off. The windows are large to afford a view of the beautiful scenery the train line takes. Bench style seats. In busy periods, they add a carriage and in one section it crosses water filled rice paddies, reminiscent of the train in Spirited Away.

Nice family friendly station with some great amenities
Niigata's Itoigawa Station is served by the Hokuriku Shinkansen, the Ōito Line, and the Nihonkai Hisui Line. It's quite a family-friendly train station, with some great amenities inside if you're waiting for a train. The Itoigawa GeoStation GeoPal in the station serves as part tourist information center, part waiting area, and part kids play area. There is a large indoor slide, a climbing wall, and various train sets available for the little ones to entertain themselves with, along with video content and exhibits about the Itoigawa UNESCO Global Geopark (one of the area's must-visit destinations). Everything is clean and well laid out, making this a pleasant place to transit through.
