A crying dam and mannequin pis
Known as the crying dam due to its appearance, the Akasakasawa Dam is certainly something different. They erected a mannequin pis and monkey at the dam too, in attempt to create more interest in this Sabo district. There is absolutely nothing at the dam, other than the three attractions - dam, mannequin pis and monkey. There is no toilet, no car park, no vending machine. Nothing. However, back down the narrow forest road that leads to the dam, there is the hydrangea road that is beautiful in June. Although there is no car park, there is an area where you can park a car beside the dam. It would fit two cars bumper to bumper. There is just about enough room to maneuver back out to go back down the mountain. So I would actually recommend coming by car, because it is quite difficult to get to this remote location by public transport.
