Great Free Kids Play Area

If you have a small child who needs to be indoors in a place they can be a little loud and crazy, this is a good place to go. Just head to the 28th floor of the AER building, near Sendai Station. The play area is to the back of the library and features a decent selection of toys if the place is not too crowded. Most parents sit with and tend to their children, who generally range in age from 0 to around 5, given the pre-school level toys available. Sometimes older kids are dropped off and hang out, but not too frequently and even more rarely when school is in session. There are two facilities for diaper changes on the same floor in addition to a handful of vending machines and a nursing room. This facility also boasts a separate play room (equipped with a small slide, more blocks, two child-sized ride-able cars, etc.) that can be rented for 300 yen per hour but must be reserved in advance. Not a bad place to go if you have to teach an English lesson and tend to a toddler simultaneously. It's also a great place for relaxing with fellow parents, many of whom bring up Starbucks from the second floor and watch their children safely while caffeinating.
