An artistic nod to the local area's snowy history

Yoshino Ohji's Peaceful Life artwork is part of the Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale, and while the official event isn't on this year, you can still check out this work on Saturdays and Sundays until the end of August. The sculpture looks a bit like both a scarecrow and a balancing toy, and is made from cedar, camphor, iron, and aluminum. It's not as flashy as some other pieces that are part of the art event, but I think it does a good job of representing the local area, since it's meant to reflect the region's history of clearing snow from rooftops. The Google Map coordinates are 37°07'52.0"N 138°51'05.9"E if you plan on visiting.
