Cozy, Showa-era yoshoku dining
Nagareyama City's Honcho, the old town, has one foot in the Edo Era, and the other just on the threshold of the modern era. There are lots of good dining options, one of them Chazuran. This yoshoku restaurant has an old-timey feel with an interior that brings to mind the Showa era. The restaurant has reasonably priced course menus with generous portions. I had the wafu hamburg plate with salad, a huge helping of rice, soup (a consomme with veggies and lentils), with an after-lunch coffee. The food is meticulously presented. Everything on my plate appeared to be prepared from scratch, and the glaze on the hamburg was one of the most flavourful I've had. The service here is good, but don't rush here. The elderly ladies preparing and serving the food are in no rush either. It's a slow dining experience. The restaurant is a 4-minute walk south of Nagareyama Station on the Ryutetsu Line.
