Free, natural beauty - with a hillside of ajisai and amazing views

The Tokamachi Ajisai Park is the perfect spot to visit if you're a fan of hydrangeas. The park doesn't cost you anything to enter, and even though we visited on a weekend there were only three or four other people there! You will need a car to reach the venue, since it's up quite a steep hillside, but there is free parking on site. When you get to the park and the ajisai are in season, you'll be greeted with a full hillside of ajisai plants in blues, pinks, purples and whites. I've been to many different flower festivals and flower parks in Japan, but usually there is an admission fee attached - this was completely free, and completely gorgeous. If you walk up to the top of the ajisai covered hillside, you'll also get some fantastic views over the Tokamachi area which is well worth it.
