An early or late bowl of ramen

Oshare-yokocho, the shopping and dining street at the west exit of Kasukabe Station, has changed a lot in the last few years. A newcomer is Yokohama Iekei Ramen Akaya. This narrow ramen shop opened in 2024 and is run by non-Japanese proprietors. The bowl of ramen pictured in the photo is tsukemen with a yuzu flavour. The straight, thick noodles were al dente. The broth had a lot of body and zippy yuzu aroma. Yokohama iekei is distinctive for the toppings of chashu, menma, nori, and spinach. The broth is a variation on tonkotsu. Akaya's is thick, aromatic, and clings well to the noodles. This was a good bowl for the price. The shop is open daily from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
