Rolling on the river (museum)!
You can't quite imagine what this place is like before you go. All the photos and blog posts about it, just don't do it justice. I personally probably would have never made the effort to go only that the very first time it was for a group event. I was so pleasantly surprised that we now go at least 3 times a year.
What draws us back is the mix of fun and educational activities that can be enjoyed both indoors and out. The main attraction for families with kids is the water adventure playground. It is particularly popular in summer, but you can go all year round. Whenever you go, bring a spare change of clothes. You don't necessarily have to get wet, but it is likely that someone will get at least their legs wet. The playground is run at fixed times and you get an hour of play for the price. Most of the equipment is either over or beside water. You can take a little pedal boat out as well as use some fun over water bicycle like equipment. There are some climbing activities too. Beside this water playground there are some splash pools which are open half the year. The water is one that is only 5 cm, so it is suitable for infants. There is a small slide in one of the splash pools. In one of the open areas there is a climbing wall. You can picnic freely in any of the open spaces. There is a restaurant on site too. In the museum building the fun continues with some interesting exhibits and information points as well as a 3D theatre. The museum is home to Japan's largest water mill.
The museum is generally open from 9 am to 5 pm, but there are extended hours in summer. It costs 410 yen for adults to enter the premises, children are free. The water playground is 210 yen and the 3D theatre is 430 yen. It is 7 minutes from the Hanazono exit of the Kanetsu expressway.
