A Little Taste of Vietnam
I've never been to Vietnam, but I think it must feel like this. Opening the door to the little shop, hidden in a normal-looking office building down an alley-like street that stetches away from Sendai's shopping arcade near the Ichibancho nightlife district, it is hard to believe you didn't just step off a plane in Hanoi. The decor is well set up and even the thermostat seems determined to transport you across the sea of Japan and a bit further south. It's hot and muggy, but not in an unpleasant way. It's more like they want you to know where you are. You have entered Vietnam, as it exists in the heart of Sendai. Drinks are self-serve with refills stated at 200 yen per glass. The menu reads in Japanese only, which can be tricky but not impossible. I had the chicken pho, my husband had the beef pho and we shared a third dish which was some delicious concoction of grilled beef, rice, a fried egg and a salad with peanut oil. It was AMAZING. That said, they were a little heavy on the cilantro in the pho. The quality of the beef made up for it though. That was some nice grilled meat. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to take a little mid-day vacay.
