Fish, Art, Wood and projection mapping!
The art museum is a relatively new addition to Tokinosumika. It started out as a pop-up art aquarium last year, then they merged it with the neighbouring Books & Cafe to make a unique space. The Books & Cafe used to be free, but now you have to pay to enter this funky space. In return, you get a small art aquarium, a wood carving exhibition, a wooden book shop and rest spot, a play area with fishing, a wooden ball pool, a projection mapping aquarium and some other fun activities. For guests of any of the hotels or self-catering accommodation of Tokinosumika, aka Gotemba Kogen, you get a half price ticket to enter the museum. With young children you could spend about 90 minutes checking out the aquarium and wooden carving exhibits and playing in the play area. They have 3,500 goldfish of about 200 different variety of goldfish. For slightly older kids you might spend longer if you want to read some of the books they have for sale and for perusing. However, if you have no children in your group, it would probably take about an hour of your time. I get the feeling they haven't quite decided what this space is yet, but regardless as a first time visitor young minds in particular will find it engaging. They open from 9 am to 7 pm. It costs 1000 yen for an adult, but guests of the resort get in for 500 yen. Children over 6 cost 300 yen. Some of the activities available cost extra, such as the fishing game and the "paper aquarium" where you colour a picture, then it is scanned into a wall sized projection mapped art aquarium.
