Hanyu Service Outbound

The non-tourist one!

Like the majority of service areas on the highway there are two Hanyu service / parking areas on the Tohoku Expresswy. One on the highway side going "up" to Tokyo or inbound as we might say in English. And one on the highway going "down" or outbound from Tokyo. The inbound Hanyu service area is better known as it is a themed parking area, designed to look like an old Edo period street. This, the outbound one, going toward Tochigi, is not themed and looks like a lot of other "normal" parking areas on highways. The selection of eateries in the outbound Hanyu service area is particularly good in my humble opinion. There is a food court with a good selection of fast food type dishes and a restaurant with table service that is very reasonably priced. There are also a couple of kiosks and a Starbucks. As with all parking areas there are toilets and vending machines. There is also a smoking area.
