Fukaya Big Turtle

Great location for indoor tournaments and sporting competitions

I didn't know what to expect when I saw the name of one of our karate tournament locations last year (and this) is Big Turtle. I kind of hoped the building would be shaped like a, well; turtle! I was kind of disappointed it wasn't, but was quite impressed with the facilities all the same. The sports hall is located in Sengenyama Park. It is useful for all sorts of indoor sporting tournaments and competitions. The main hall can be separated into different parts and it has marking and nets for a variety of sports including indoor tennis, basketball and volleyball. I don't know if the karate federation paid for us to use the hall, but it was free for us to enter on the day. The general public can enter and spectate for free too. You have to take your shoes off in the reception area and need to bring a plastic bag for your shoes as there are only a few cubicles for keeping shoes. For buggies / strollers and wheelchairs you need to wipe down the tyres with disinfectant before entering. There is a ramp for easy access. The lobby is really big with high ceilings. They have a small play area for kids. There are massage chairs along the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the park. The center is open from 8 am to 9 pm. There is parking beside the sports hall as well as other parking for the park. When there is a large event on such as our karate tournaments, you can park in some temporary parking spots as the main parking fills up quick.
