The famous poppy fields of Konosu
Poppy Happy Square is the name of the famous poppy fields of Konosu. They are famous as they are the largest poppy fields and biggest poppy festival in the whole of Japan. Every year in May, thousands make the journey to see the poppies. Located along the Ara river in a very rural area of Konosu, there is nothing but river and flood fields for as far as the eye can see. And Japan's largest water pipe bridge! They often have a special event when you can go up on the water pipe to see the poppies with a bird's eye view. Parking is quite limited and due to the narrow roads leading to the fields they advise you come by public transport. Even though the nearest train station is quite far away. However, the city run free shuttle buses to accommodate people coming by train during the period of the festival.
