When it comes to symbols of tropical locations, palm trees are a key one -- and you can see them in abundance at the Yaeyama Palm Forest. There is a reasonable admission fee of 300 yen, and you can explore these beautiful trees up close. There's also a great observation deck where you can get a view of the trees from above and the water off in the distance.
