Sansha Shrine

Frog shrine in Niigata

Japan has a number of unique shrines across the country dedicated to animals, including the rabbit shrine in Kyoto (Okazaki-jinja) and the maneki neko shrine in Tokyo (Gotokuji). There's a fun one in Niigata City that I stumbled across recently, and that's Sansha Shrine in Chuo ward. There are several large frog statues on the grounds, and there are also a bunch of smaller frog figurines on display. Even the goshuin here has a frog motif on it, which makes for a fun addition to any stamp collection. It's only 5 minutes on foot from the Pier Bandai area if you're passing through Niigata City.
