  • Amazing Uchino Bakery!

Tried a wide variety of offerings on a Saturday morning. The egg sandwiches are exceptionally well crafted to my tastes. The sandwiches are touted as ‘たっぷり’, and they are right! There is an excellent amount of egg salad in the sandwich, not so much that it dominates the flavor of the bread, and the salad is not over whipped, so you can enjoy the texture of minced eggs with a hint of mayonnaise rather than the super creamy types that most bakeries sell. The addition of a few slices of lettuce in the sandwich add a light, crispy counterpoint to the more substantive, denser flavors of the eggs. The bread is chewy and light, but again, not cut so thick that you’re fighting with it when you eat it. The salt bread was very light a fluffy and the right amount buttery flavor when biting into it. Kokopelli’s take was a much softer crust, and the break from the usual was, again, refreshing. The amount of salt as a topping was just right. Compared to other bakeries, the burdock root stick has focused more on the roll than the burdock filling, and the only feedback I have is that I would have liked to have tasted a bit more filling as I was eating. The walnut maple bread was the piece de resistance. The delicious brown roll was a perfect canvas to mix in walnuts and maple flavoring. Every bite had a well-balanced amount of maple flavor, crunchy walnuts, and excellently chewy bread. There were also small sugary bites decorating the roll, so every other bite or so, you’re treated to extra sweetness. The slivered almonds on top elevated the deliciousness even more. I’ll go back just to try this bread again. There is also coffee offered to pair with your bread offerings, so if you’re driving through Uchino, give this bakery a try. There are eight parking spaces, two specifically for cars with smaller engines (軽自動車). Some people have commented that’s too few, and others have said just right. I’ll let you decide that on your own. During peak business hours, you may have to park across the street at the 7-11, but for a quick stop in for delicious bread, I think it can be forgiven.
