    Love the local touches

I'm always a fan of shrines that incorporate fun, local touches to their premises, and Isurugi Shrine in Ojiya is one of them. As some of you might know, Ojiya is famous for koi fish, and there are also some bullfighting arenas in the area -- perhaps the second point isn't as well known! The ceiling art at this shrine incorporates both animals into its design, and the goshuin also has koi on it. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to visit this shrine if I wasn't local, but it's definitely fun to check out if you are based in Niigata!
