Kasugayama Shrine

A branch of Yonezawa's Uesugi Shrine in Niigata

My husband is a real history buff, and years ago on a trip to Yonezawa in Yamagata he insisted we stop at Uesugi Shrine. It enshrines the powerful daimyo Uesugi Kenshin, but there's a branch of Uesugi Shrine here in Niigata, too. You can find it in Joetsu (Kasugayama Shrine), and it's a cool place to check out. The memorial hall on the shrine grounds has a bunch of interesting historical stuff to delve into, so if you're in the area and appreciate learning more about Japan's past I would recommend stopping by.
