    Hotel Buffet on the Beach

My husband picked out a hotel buffet restaurant to visit on our travels as usual and I went along. Maybe this was the only one on the island and it's open only on weekends. The price is a little higher than usual for a hotel buffet, but Ishigaki is basically a resort island so I expected food costs to be a little higher. There was a hidden service charge though and it wasn't noted anywhere until we got the bill. The price for the lunch was 2300 yen per person plus tax and the service charge for two people was about 540 yen, so the total price ended up being about 2800 yen. This was a little frustrating but the quality of the food was good and we could eat a lot. Probably the best thing was the variety of desserts they had. We especially liked the guava jelly and almond pistachio ice cream (maybe from Blue Seal brand). The main dishes were very fresh and high quality although my husband initially thought there were not many options. I didn't even try everything so I think there were plenty of options. The restaurant also offers made to order dishes and beverages at an additional cost, but we didn't order any of these. The beverages available as part of the buffet were plenty – a variety of juices (but nothing like fresh mango or guava unfortunately), coffee and tea. There wasn't a ton of local representation, but otherwise the menu was really nice. All the dishes had an English translation and so did the additional menu.
