Beautiful and tranquil city park
Hakusan Park is located in Niigata City, but is the kind of place that has you feeling a world away from any hustle or bustle. Interestingly, it was one of the first established parks in Japan and actually dates back to the 1800's. The park has a lot of traditional Japanese elements, making it a photogenic spot to wander around. There's a beautiful pond filled with lotus flowers, a wisteria trellis when those are in season, and even plenty of play equipment for the kids to keep them occupied. As well as being a pleasant park year round, it's known as one of the great spots in the prefecture for cherry blossom viewing - so if you're in the area in the coming weeks it's worth visiting to check those out, too. If you're headed there from Niigata Station it's about a 30 minute walk (Hakusan Station is closer, at about a 10 minute walk).
