Worth the wait
I've only been to Washi no Sato, a roadside station in Higashichichibu, a handful of times. But each time there was a long line for this restaurant so today I decided to give it a try. I can't eat soba, which it is best known for, and I only wanted a light meal so I got udon for just 300 yen. It hit the mark. It was worth the wait, but not so much for the food. But because I had a view of the roadside station's red spider lilies as I waited! The restaurant is on the left of the featured photo. On the right is a period house, they name "Kensyu", that you can actually book to stay in. Up to 5 people can stay at once. It costs 6000 yen with dinner and breakfast included.
