Uchiura Beach 内浦海水浴場

Shallow beach for wading and birdwatching

This beach right outside the ticket gate at Awa-Kominato Station is about 300 meters of white sand. In the summer, there are lifeguards and buoys marking the edges of the swimming area. The water is shallow and the waves are gentle. I visited in winter and enjoyed the view of crystal-clear shallow water and the deeper blue beyond. It's a great spot for bird-watching. I spotted herons and cranes. Note that the beach is on one of the paths of the Kanto Fureai Nature Trail. You can walk from here to Tanjoji Temple and Namegawa Island Station in about an hour.
