Futuristic fortunetelling with yatagarasu and friends

Kumano Shrine in Kawagoe City was founded in 1590 by a priest from Kumano in Kishu. Of the four deities enshrined here are the original couple, Izanami and Izanagi, so the shrine is a place to ask for blessings in relationships. The deputy of the kami is Yatagarasu, the three-legged crow, who does a lot of the talking. No joke, he tells you stuff. At the shrine, you make your offering, put your hand on one of three crystal balls labeled protection, warding off evil, and fortune, and a message from Yatagarasu-sama appears on a screen in both English and Japanese. The shrine also has a money-washing spot related to Benzaiten, too. For Japanese-speaking visitors seeking palmistry, fortune telling, or counseling, there are sessions you can book with experts.

Where a virtual God conveys your fortune

I thought I'd seen it all, until I visited Kawagoe Kumano Shrine for the first time in years recently. The shrine has really come along way since my last visit. Like way into the future - where a robot / virtual God actually speaks your fortune to you after you touch the crystal ball on the counter. And after you deposit your contribution into the donations box! Its kind of eerie, quite a bit tacky and yet super cool all at the same time! They have some other unique fortune telling methods at this shrine and even palm reading! And some giant three legged crows!
