Kashiwa Shrine 柏神社

Lively civic shrine

This shrine is a subsidiary of Haguro Shrine in Yamagata Prefecture is a short walk from Kashiwa Station. The shrine attendants are friendly. The shrine issues goshuin stamps every month with different seasonal images. The collected stamps make for an interesting calendar display. Most years, the shrine is the center of Kashiwa Matsuri which begins in July. In preparation, the shrine holds traditional dance and music performances in the pavilion. Again in October, the pavilion is a great place to hear traditional music performed by musicians of all ages.
