Classy Yaki-soba and Tapas

Last evening a friend invited me out for dinner and she brought me to this yaki-soba place that she had read about. It was small with only 15 seats all of which are bar seating. When we arrived most of the seats were taken, but luckily there were still two together. We settled in and were brought a drink menu (in English). There is a one drink minimum, so we each ordered something. Then it was time to consider what to eat. We started with several of the tapas items that were listed on the chalkboard on the wall. This menu was all in Japanese, and luckily my friend is fully bilingual. They did ask if we needed English, and my friend answered that we didn't. I am wondering, based on the question, if they do have and English menu. I am not sure. The tapas dishes were wonderful. This place prides itself on having really fresh, high quality ingredients for its dishes and the proof is in how it all tasted. After having a number of the smaller dishes, it was time to have the yaki-soba. We ordered separately since we wanted different toppings. The basic yaki-soba order is 100g of fresh noodles with pork and cabbage. There was a list of optional toppings including beef, yellow nira, and nori. All the grilling was done in front of us at the bar. And we could see a bit of the kitchen so, for example, when we ordered grilled eggplant, could see that they cut the eggplant right then. They also make their own sauces. This shop is very attentive to the food and also the customers. Their attention to quality came through in the taste as well. The food was excellent. I think, as wonderful as it all tasted, this would be a difficult place to go for foreigners to go if they had limited or no Japanese reading ability unless with a more fluent friend.
