Dozens of variations on okonomiyaki to choose from
For visitors to Hiroshima, okonomiyaki is a must-eat food. The Hiroshima variety is different from Osakan mixed savory pancake - this is stacked layers of pancake, egg, and vegetables with noodles on the bottom. Okonomimura has three floors with dozens of counters serving variations of the hearty dish. Under each noren curtain with the shops' names, you'll find classic and novel variations. Maybe you'll be inspired to create your own at home!

Love okonomiyaki? This is the place for you!
If you're a fan of the Japanese comfort food okonomiyaki, visiting Okonomimura in Hiroshima has to be a must-do if you're in the area. It's often described as a food theme park, which gives you a bit of an indication of the fun that can be had there. There are over 20 different okonomiyaki vendors at Okonomimura, and each different store has a slightly different recipe or something that makes their kind of okonomiyaki unique. One of the things I loved most about visiting here was that at many of the stores, you could take a seat basically right up by the grilling stations - so your food was made literally centimeters away from your face! It was fun getting to experience the making of it up close and seeing the speed and skill with which these chefs work. Definitely come with an empty stomach - there are so many delicious variations to try.
