Visit at Christmas for illuminations and a market
I've reviewed Aore Nagaoka before from the cool architectural standpoint, but if you visit during the Christmas period there are some great winter illuminations, a big Christmas tree, and a Christmas market taking place, too. Because it's undercover it's not weather dependent, either -- another nicety of visiting! The proximity to Nagaoka Station is also excellent, so I would recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Cool architecture in Nagaoka
I'm a bit of an architecture fan, and I like the design of Aore Nagaoka -- it's one of Kengo Kuma's works, who is also famous for other buildings such as the Japan National Stadium and the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center. The actual complex itself has several purposes -- it houses the City Hall, the Niigata Albirex BB basketball team, and more. Personally though, I just think it's cool from a design standpoint, and would recommend walking past if you also like architecture -- it's very close to Nagaoka Station.
