A spot to try a local specialty

If you have a penchant for regional eats, Kagaya in Niigata's Nishikan ward specializes in wappameshi, which is a dish consisting of steamed rice and seasonal ingredients served in a wooden container called a wappa. You can get toppings here including salmon, oysters, shrimp, and more, it just really depends on your personal taste. They also have other options that aren't served in a wappa, including katsudon and tempura with soba.
