    Old-fashioned wagashi, warm welcome

On the approach to Hokekyoji, the Kamakura era Nichiren Buddhist temple, you'll pass under the Kuromon, a black gate on the shopping street. Stop here for Tomura, an old-fashioned wagashi shop that has been in business for decades. The proprietor gives you a warm welcome and can introduce the varieties of sweets. We picked up some chestnut treats with wrapping that depicts the atmosphere of the Nakayama district. The proprietor wrapped our sweets in paper. It's a charming shop that is a vital part of the area.
