Animated clock, Narita's kabuki and festival heritage
The Narita Puppet Clock Tower (Narita Karakuri Tokei) is a delight you ought to stick around for when you pass through Narita Station. The clock's mechanism rises on the hour to reveal two scenes with music and puppets. The scenes are from the Narita Gion Festival held in July, and an adaptation of the kabuki classic, Kagami Jishi. The clock is a delight, but I highly recommend taking in the Gion Festival with elaborate floats, thundering drums, dancing, and processions. On Fridays and Saturdays, the clock displays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Other days, the last show is at 8 p.m.
