Uonuma sanchi no osusowake

Wonderful soba and a fascinating premises

Located on Bokushi Street in Shiozawa, Uonuma Sanchi no Osusowake are known for a couple of things - their rice and their soba. Their restaurant is located in a beautiful, high ceiling building - which also has a museum at the front, explaining many different details about koshikihari rice - the pride of the region. I ordered the soba and veggie tempura, and my husband had the lunch set which had tempura, soba, miso soup, rice, and some pickled vegetables. There was also complimentary coffee, tea, and water of course. The food was excellent (husband noted that all of his set menu was delicious) and the portions were big. We both ate for 2600 yen and felt like anywhere else in beautiful settings like these you would be paying much more. The staff here were very welcoming too - even with a young child in our company they were more than happy to assist. They only take cash so do bear that in mind if you’re visiting.
