    Falstaff Pub-- British-ish-ness in Fukushima

In a secluded area that seems to be frequently covered in mist, you'll find Falstaff Pub, part of the British Hills hotel complex in the Fukushima countryside. The road up to the hotel itself is harrowing if taken at high speeds, so I recommend a more cautious approach. We got there just before dusk and only came for the pub, which my husband said was properly British-ish, and he would know as he spent more than 7 years living in England. The menu offers Guinness and beer brewed there at British Hills as well as some non-alcoholic selections such as the Harry Potter inspired butter beer and a selection of cocktails. The atmosphere is fun and pub-like, and the music is akin to any drinking establishment in any western country it seems (even Texas) but the food is apparently also pretty accurate. Cottage pie and fish and chips were our selection and for one of the first times in my Japanese experience, the fries were properly salted. Most of the other patrons seem to be retirees looking for an almost-abroad vacay or students on a group trip to an almost-foreign space. Cheaper than flying them to the real UK, I suppose.
