Guinness Record holding giant buddha 2 ticks from Ami Premium outlet

Conveniently located just three minutes drive from the Ken-o expressway the giant buddha of Ibaraki's Ushiku is as impressive as it is tall. It is the largest bronze Buddha statue in the world. At 120 metres tall, the daibutsu makes a towering impression. It is taller than the statue of liberty and about half the size of the Eiffel Tower. Japan's largest incense burner is also on the same grounds, close to the entrance to the Buddha. You can't go all the way up the Buddha, in fact you can only go up to the lotus flower upon which it stands. There is a museum in the base of the daibutsu with hundreds of miniature Buddha statues. You take off your shoes going into the Buddha and carry them with you in a plastic bag they provide. The gardens are very picturesque with a pond. At the back of the Buddha there is a small zoo. There is currently a baby llama there. Parking is free. On New Year's day and the 2nd and 3rd of January the Daibutsu is free in.

    Seriously impressive Daibutsu in Ibaraki

We stopped here as part of a road trip through Ibaraki Prefecture, and this is a truly impressive daibutsu. You can see it from a distance as you're driving up to it, and it just gets more amazing the closer you get. One of my favorite things about visiting here were the beautiful flowers that were blooming around the daibutsu. It seems like they have seasonal flower displays which only add to the beauty of the area and make it even more worth the visit. They have some picnic tables so you could bring some lunch along and have a really picturesque setting to eat and just take in the great view. If you're in Ibaraki Prefecture or passing through, I think stopping here is definitely worth it. Admission was around 800 yen from memory, but I think that's a small price to pay for such a beautiful setting and an impressive structure.
